Abu--the camel

This is Abu, the camel. It was demonstration speach week at Savanna's school. A boy in her class brought the camel to show how to ride it.

I was way more interested in how to get the camel out of the trailer! It is amazing. It is trained to bend down and crawl in. It started out with it's head facing front and then Kyle pulled on the lead rope and Abu scooted around until he was facing the rear. The straw is to protect Abu's knees from getting scraped up.

As you can see, Abu is taller than the trailer. It was so cool to watch the camel get around! He was trained to lay down to let people get on it's back. He made a funny growling noise. I thought camels were silent!
The reason I was there? Savanna demonstrated how to saddle a horse and our poor horse was scared to death of this strange critter!
